Life is good.

WOW!! What a day I've had. It's my birthday today and one of the greater ones, no doubt. I found out today that I sold another painting at the gallery! Good reviews from other members of the gallery and customers, and nothing is cooler than that.

Today has just been packed with awesomeness: lunch with a beautiful friends, flowers delivers anonymously to the house, trip to the art supply store, outside time with my family, Habaneros for dinner (YUM), Blizzard for dessert, awesome night painting and watching. Happy to live my life.

Thanks to EVERYONE that made it special! I'm such a sucker for birthdays :)

Opening Show!

It's official! My artwork, my very first collection, is up in Art 1274 Hollis! I'm the featured artist this month which means I'll be having an opening show on May 17th, during the afternoon. I'll be there talking to everyone and we'll have lots of our gallery artists on the premises to chat with. So stop by to browse, mingle and munch on yummy refreshments! There may even be a door prize ;) Eeek! So excited!

Busy Bee

Well, thanks to Nathan, I'm painting up a storm here in Beechville! Check out the gallery for 7 new paintings: a little taste of my very first collection!

All the subject matter is local. I like to take drives along the coast for inspiration. It's not hard to come by. I'll often pull the car over to the side of the road to snap a few photos to work from later that day. Sometimes I'll paint the whole seascape, and other times I'll focus in on a small section of the picture. I keep all the seascape photos I take in a file on my computer so that when I get the urge to paint I know where to go for reference.

If anyone has some of their own seascape photos that I could use as reference, send them along! I'd love to see and paint them!

PS - Happy Easter! I hope to come out of this Easter weekend with at least 4 more paintings for your visual pleasure :)

Living the dream!

It's official folks. I can now truly call myself an artist. I was just accepted into 'Art 1274 Hollis', an art gallery in downtown Halifax! #feeling proud.

Here's how it all happened: I wandered into the gallery some time last year. It seemed like a quaint folk art gallery that I'd love to be a part of so I asked about how to have work there. The artist on duty gave me an application so I brought it back all filled out along with a portfolio for them to keep. They vice chairman of the Board called me and told me they wanted me to bring in some real artwork for the members of the gallery to look at. Evidently new artists are voted in by the existing artists of the gallery.   So I brought in about 4 paintings for them to review and vote on. I guess I was voted in!

So, starting May 1st, I'll have about a 7 x 7' space in the gallery to display and sell my work!

I ALSO will have artwork for sale in a retail shop at the Wharf in Eastern Passage; a store called 'Shore Things'! The credit for this one goes to my sister-in-law, Jen Smith, who knew the owner of the shop and mentioned my name and started the ball rolling. There again, as of May 1st, I'll have art for sale in his cute shop.

Needless to say, April is going to be quite a full month of painting and prepping. I'm so excited about both opportunities. PROPS to the hubby for encouraging me all the way, giving me kid-free paint time and basically making all of this happen. I couldn't have done it without you Nathan!

It's all coming together and everything is coming up Caverly :)

Feeling Grateful... Time to Paint!

I sold two paintings very recently. I'm always flattered when someone is interested in the paintings and tells me they like my work. It's inspiring and makes me want to paint more.

I find I paint in spurts. I get the itch to paint and need to make at least 8 - 10 paintings to get rid of that itch. Usually by then, life takes over and I'm not allowed to go on and paint more (kids forget who their mom is, the house gets dirty, laundry piles up, etc.), but at least I'd satisfied the need to create. I have that need again and I hope I can produce at least 10 paintings in the near future! Look out for some new material. I'm excited to see what I come up with! Be patient with me family for the next little bit while I try and do something for myself. I'll post the images in the gallery as they're made :)

My New Manager

I've decided to really try and make an effort with painting, get myself out there and see if I can make this education of mine profitable. Because I know I can't handle the logistics and numbers myself, I decided I needed a manager. Nathan gladly stepped up to the plate. He's already proven to be extremely helpful. Deadlines sometimes don't seem like much fun but they definitely get the job done. On an administration level, he sure knows what he's doing. Thanks Nathan for helping me try and make this work :)

New Facebook Page!

Hey everyone!

Guess who just created her own Dabble Facebook page? This girl, that's who! The Facebook page will have my new paintings and fun updates and I'm super excited about it. The more 'likes' the page gets, the closer I come to giveaways. So check it out, 'like' away and spread the word :)
