I began creating art at a very early age. Since art was always my favourite subject in school, it's no surprise that I enrolled in the Illustration program at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, even though it meant leaving behind everything I knew. In an effort to evolve into a style that I loved, I pushed myself (and was forced) to try new things every day. I was the poor, frazzled art student we've all seen in the movies, but my dreams of becoming a children's book illustrator and founding my own studio kept me going.
Since obtaining my Bachelor's Degree in Illustration, I have done a little bit of everything, and worked with some fabulous people. My arts-and-crafts booth at the Horton Farmer's Market in St. Thomas, Ontario was the perfect forum for interfacing with my clients, and that was where I met some of my favourite people in the whole world. It also helped me to get a feel for my style, and what I wanted to create as a freelance artist (not to mention what I didn't want to create!). One of my most rewarding adventures was teaching portraiture classes at the St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre. I enjoyed it so much, and I can't wait to start offering more classes in drawing, painting, illustration, and design.
Since moving to the east coast of Canada with my little family, I have found the water to be a key source of inspiration; I now find myself painting the waves, rocks, and seascape more than anything else. There is such a fascinating balance of serenity and mystery to the ocean, and I never seem to tire of it. Much of my inspiration comes from the photographs my husband and I shoot during long drives and boat rides.
Though I feel my style has evolved, I'm always ready to try something new. Recently I discovered that I love to work with the palette knife. I love the surprises that come from this technique, and the beautiful texture that's produced. Paintings can be really compelling when there is a touch of the third dimension.
I hope you enjoy perusing my gallery! I'd love to hear your comments and questions, and whether you would like one of my paintings on your wall. My artwork can be shipped anywhere in North America, and the shipping is included in the cost. It arrives to you in gallery quality, ready to hang and enjoy.
Smiles,
Caverly
